BBC Worldwide and IGN Announce Global Exclusive Distribution for Doctor Who PC Games On Direct2Drive.com

BBC Worldwide and IGN announced today that the upcoming PC adventure games, based on the hit series, Doctor Who, will be globally available exclusively by Direct2Drive.com, IGN's digital retail game store. The Doctor, his companion Amy Pond and some of the show's most iconic monsters, are making a journey from TV to PC with the first release of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games available from July 22, 2010 at www.direct2drive.com. Doctor Who fans will be able to purchase both City of the Daleks and Blood of the Cybermen, the first two games, from Direct2Drive for a special bundle price of $6.99.

The games are being launched to coincide with both the season finale of the new series which airs July 24 9/8c on BBC America, and this year’s Comic-Con festival. The Adventure Games will be showcased at the BBC America booth in San Diego from July 22nd.

"Doctor Who is transformative entertainment. The show has redefined the sci-fi genre several times and now it's expanding beyond TV to become an entirely interactive experience," says Sutton Trout, Vice President of Digital Content, Direct2Drive. "The BBC is taking Doctor Who in a new direction yet again, moving from the television screen to the digital world, just as Direct2Drive has helped move games into the online realm. With the diversity of content offered at Direct2Drive, we think we’ll make the perfect online home for the good Doctor."

"IGN is the number one destination for game enthusiasts and pop culture fans, and Direct2Drive is one of the biggest and longest-running digital retailers of video games," comments Robert Nashak, Executive VP of Digital Entertainment at BBC Worldwide. "Doctor Who fans will undoubtedly enjoy the series of interactive adventures as much as they enjoy the TV show."

"Doctor Who: The Adventure Games will offer fans a unique opportunity to enter his world, face his challenges and grapple with his deadliest foes," says Steven Moffat, Head Writer and Executive Producer, Doctor Who. "Now they can be the Doctor."

The adventures take the form of downloadable computer games available for PCs, in which players assume control of the Doctor and Amy Pond as they embark on new journeys. For more information on the series and the game, please go to www.bbcamerica.com/drwho.
